Authorities in Xiamen, a city in Southeast China's Fujian province, vowed to build itself into an international destination for conventions and exhibitions by strengthening ties with international industry organizations and introducing more overseas resources.
Jimei New City is located in the geometrical center of Jimei District. It has a planned total land area of 44.2 square kilometers, including a core area of 6 square kilometers, and a planned population of 480,000.
Haicang New City is located in the west of Xiamen and it has a planned land and sea area of about 30 square kilometers and a population of 250,000. As the administrative, cultural, financial and commercial center of Haicang District, it is designed to primarily develop the industries of finance, trade and commerce, seaside tourism, culture and sports.
The core area of Tong’an New City covers a total area of about 18 square kilometers and has a population of about 220,000. It is mainly designed for the industries of commercial services, seaside tourism, sports and leisure.
Xiang’an New City is designed to have an area of about 52 square kilometers, including a core area of about 17 square kilometers, and a population of 450,000. It is designed to become a comprehensive new urban area for administration, office, cultural entertainment, commercial service, leisure tourism and residential purposes.
Xiamen is a coastal city located in the southeast coast of China popularly known as the 'Garden on the Sea.' An early poet once described the city in this way: 'A city leans on stones like a flower; millions of mountains embrace the sea,' which was a true portrayal of the scenery of 'Garden on the Sea.' Xiamen is one of the special economical zones and a city of sub-provincial level directly attached to the central government in planning.
