Mainland forum focuses on youth talent

A forum in east China's Fujian Province has focused on the role of young talent.

The Straits Youth Forum, part of the 10th Straits Forum, was held Tuesday in the port city of Xiamen, with more than 600 young people from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau in attendance.

The participants shared their experience in a variety of areas, such as in starting businesses.

Ho Yih-chan, from Taiwan, said that economic growth on the mainland had provided great opportunities for young Taiwanese people.

"The sharing economy and the digital economy on the mainland are prospering," he said. "A lot of young people from Taiwan are choosing to start businesses here."

He said that the fierce competition on the mainland was also an opportunity for them to improve themselves.

Weng Shao-huei, also from Taiwan, said that the huge market on the mainland and the preferential policies here were attractive for young entrepreneurs from Taiwan.

The Straits Forum, which began Tuesday, is seeing thousands of participants from Taiwan, including representatives of political parties, cities and counties, and people of all walks of life. The forum's general conference will be held in Xiamen Wednesday.
