Round up of preliminary contests for Individual A and Individual B

The Individual A and Individual B, two games of the first round of the 2018 “Young Star Ambassadors” Xiamen Youth English Proficiency Competition, were held last weekend at C&D One Park Mall and Red Star Macalline Furniture Mall.

Nearly 500 students from primary and secondary schools in Xiamen competed in the 2-day preliminary contest.

Along the topics of "I Love Xiamen's (places, food...)" and "My Dream", contestants were given the choice to either introduce their favorite places of interest and signature dishes of Xiamen, or share their dreams for the future, in 3-minute-long speeches.

The judges were impressed by the performances of the elementary school students. Cai Chaochao, an official of the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Xiamen Municipal Government and the judge of the Individual A round, thought very highly of the contestants. "I believe the uniqueness and full understanding of the content will help you stand out in the competition," she told the young contestants.

Sun Huiqi, a researcher of Xiamen Academy of Educational Science and judge of Individual B, pointed out the key to succeeding in the contest is to "enjoy yourself".

The 2018 “Young Star Ambassadors” Xiamen Youth English Proficiency Competition will last until the end of this month.

The preliminary rounds of Individual C and D as well as Group B and C is scheduled to take place next weekend.

The competition is chaired by the Xiamen Municipal Internet Information Office, jointly sponsored by the Xiamen Municipal Education Bureau, Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Xiamen Municipal Government, Xiamen Daily, and organized by the Xiamen Academy of Educational Science, xmnn.cn, the city’s official website, and xmenglish.cn, the city’s English portal website.
