City announces full health coverage for local residetns
Xiamen officials announced recently that the city's 38 medical care institutions are sufficient to provide coverage for all area residents.
Xiamen's registered population includes 339,800 residents more than 60 years old, accounting for 14.3 percent of the total population. The totals include more than 46,000 octogenarians and 5,600 nonagenarians. A total of 119 residents are more than 100 years old.
Local authorities added that the city will continue to improve Xiamen's six current senior citizen service centers and 25 rural assisted living communities. Future plans call for the additions of 1,300 assisted living beds for senior citizens.
By 2020, officials expect high-end assisted living facilities to account for 15 percent of housing for Xiamen's senior citizen population.
