Xixi Bridge construction crews work day and night shifts

City officials said last week that construction of the Xixi Bridge for the Xiamen section of Fuzhou-Xiamen-Zhangzhou High-speed Railway continues around the clock. More than 200 workers are scheduled for shifts that run throughout the day, with the exception of a break for New Year's Eve.

The Fuzhou-Xiamen-Zhangzhou high-speed railway will commence at the Fuzhou South Railway Station and head south to Putian, Quanzhou and Xiamen North Station before terminating in Zhangzhou. The 277-kilometer route includes 48 kilometers of track in the city of Xiamen that traverses the districts of Xiangan, Tongan, Jimei and Haicang.

Begun in 2017, the new railway is expected to open in 2022. Rated for speeds topping 300 kilometers per hour, the route will save 40 minutes from the travel time between Fuzhou and Xiamen, bringing the intra-city commute to less than one hour.
