2018-10-19

On October 18th, an exhibition of Manchu costumes from the Qing Dynasty(1636-1912) opened at the Xiamen Museum, and will run until November 18, 2018.

The month-long exhibition will showcase a total of 114 cultural relics chosen from the collections of Jilin Provincial Museum, including an outfit worn by Emperor Kangxi, embroidered female costumes, high-sole brocade shoes and ethnic accessories.

Accordingly, the Qing Dynasty was where ancient Chinese fashion came into bloom, and those styles have influenced Chinese fashion ever since. Qing dynasty clothing plays a significant role in the evolution of Chinese clothing history, said an organizing committee official.

"For example, Manchu women's one-piece gown, which was known as a “qipao”, has remained a fashion item for modern Chinese women," he explained.

In addition, the museum will deliver public lectures on Qing clothing and culture of the same period.
