A video conference was held between Xiamen's Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (XMFOCAO) and Cardiff's Economic Development Agency to discuss the two cities' exchanges on April 19.

Cardiff, the capital of Wales, UK and an important port city in the Bristol Channel, is Xiamen's first sister city and the two are the first pair of sister cities between China and the United Kingdom.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of friendly relations between the two cities.

Kong Suting, a member of XMFOCAO's Party leadership group and deputy director of the Xiamen Friendship Association, said during the conference that this year, they plan to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their friendship by promoting high-level visits and exchanges between the two cities in various fields.

Kong invited Cardiff to organize a delegation to attend the 20th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) this September.

Ken Poole, director of Cardiff's Economic Development Agency, hopes to strengthen relations with Xiamen and said that he would advise the chair of the city council to lead a delegation to participate in the 20th CIFIT.

Poole also invited a Xiamen delegation to visit Cardiff in June.

The two parties also discussed their other cooperative projects, such as exchanges between their teenage football players and the cooperation between Cardiff and Vale College and Xiamen Foreign Language School.
