The Su Song International Cultural Festival and the Cross-Strait Watch and Jewelry Fair jointly opened last Friday at the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center.

The cultural festival is named after Su Song, a renowned Chinese polymath from the Song Dynasty who was born in Tong’an. Mr. Su built in 1088 an advanced astronomical clock tower, a precise apparatus used for astronomical observations and timekeeping that is hailed as the ancestor of modern clocks and watches.

The four-day event included industry representative and scholars from China, Japan and the U.K. Related activities included a forum and an awards ceremony for craftsmen.
