The Tan Kah Kee Cup and the Jingxian Cup Cross-Strait Dragon Boat Race splashed into town last week.
This year's competition included 200-meter and 500-meter straight-course races, both using 22-person dragon boats. The event is divided into four categories: men's and women's open divisions, and; men's and women's youth divisions.
Auxiliary events included a food and cultural creative products market, traditional Dragon Boat Festival activities and the Jimei (Duanwu) Poetry Festival.
The overseas Chinese magnate Tan Kah Kee (Chen Jiageng) organized dragon boat races in the early 1950s and oversaw the construction of China's first dedicated artificial pool for competitive dragon boat racing in Jimei.
