Xiamen FTZ's Songyu Operational Area handles dual mega-ship berthing

Xiamen Free Trade Zone's Songyu Operational Area received two ultra-large container ships — the 150,000-ton MSC Lorenza and the 200,000-ton MSC Sweva — which simultaneously berthed on June 4. This dual docking operation handled approximately 13,500 TEUs of cargo throughput.

The two vessels primarily serve the Asia-Europe route, with Xiamen being one of their port calls. After unloading, the ships will load a variety of cargo, including mechanical parts, timber, marble, garments, footwear, and food products before departing for major European ports.

The Songyu Operational Area, consisting of Songyu and Haitong terminals, is Xiamen's main deep-water container facility specializing in mainline services and regional distribution. Its prime location along primary shipping routes combined with naturally deep channels and extensive quay space enables concurrent operations for three over-20,000-TEU-class vessels.

This month to date, Songyu Operational Area has handled nearly 40,000 TEUs, representing an 8.5-percent year-on-year increase. In the coming week, the operational area is scheduled to receive six additional calls by large container ships exceeding 150,000 tons.
