A provincial/municipal key project in Haicang has achieved critical progress. The systems of Huaxia Power's #5 unit—a 660 MW coal-fired steam turbine generator—have completed commissioning and passed all tests, with full-load operation scheduled by month-end and grid connection slated for next month to commence commercial operations. 

The project replaces two aging 300 MW subcritical coal-fired units (to be retained as emergency backups) with a single high-efficiency, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly unit, currently ranking among China's most advanced in power generation efficiency. Compared to the retired units, the new generator will reduce coal consumption by 17%, saving approximately 90,000 metric tons of standard coal annually and cutting CO2 emissions by 250,000 metric tons per year, thereby bolstering Xiamen’s electricity supply reliability.
