2024 APEC Training Workshop on Marine Spatial Planning held in Xiamen
The 2024 APEC Training Workshop on Marine Spatial Planning held in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian province from November 7 to 9, 2024.
Over 50 delegates from 10 members of the APEC economies such as Chile, China, Indonesia, RO Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Thailand, Viet Nam and Chinese Taipei, as well as from UNESCO-IOC and Liverpool University attended the workshop.
During the workshop, participating experts shared theirs findings in such issues as accelerating the implementation of MSP in the West Pacific region, BRI cooperation in MSP, marine ecological restoration in China, ecological corridors recognition technology, and stakeholders’ participation in MSP.
At the panel discussion session, the participants conducted in-depth discussions on the major situations, challenges, opportunities, future cooperation of Asia-Pacific MSP.
Additionally, the participants took field trips to Xiatanwei Mangrove Park and Wuyuan Bay Wetland Park to understand Xiamen’s practices in marine spatial planning and ecological protection and restoration.
The workshop was proposed by China and co-sponsored by Indonesia and Russia. It aims to deepen all APEC economies’ understanding of the role of MSP in promoting marine protection and blue economy, and to enhance their capacity for MSP, helping promote sustainable marine development and practical cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
