Local transit officials noted last week that the city’s subway system has notched a combined one billion passenger trips since it debuted in 2017.

The first segment of the city’s subway system, a stretch of Line One between Zhenhai and Yannei roads, opened in 2017. The system notched 100 million passengers in its first two years of operation.

It notched an additional 200 million passenger trips in less than one additional year, hitting the milestone in November 2000. Passenger totals have continued to surge since the opening of Line Three between the Xiamen Railway Station and the Caicuo subway station in June 2021.

The system’s traffic flow continues to increase and it now notches 100 million passenger trips in less than five months.
