Xiamen University alumnus Ou Rui earned a pair of gold medals earlier this month at the World Ballet Competition in Tokyo, Japan.

The artist earned both the Modern Ballet Adult Group Committee Special Award and the World Ethnic Dance Adult Group Gold Award.

The 33-year-old dancer was the sole professional contestant in the adult category to be honored with the committee's special accolade. Ou Rui also serves as a director of the Xiamen Dancers Association.

Organized by the International Ballet Competition Federation under Unesco's auspices, the event attracted over a hundred participants from nations such as China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore and the United States.
