The Shangcun Reservoir last Friday began to store water flowing from the Longjin stream.

The storage capacity of the reservoir tops 120 million cubic meters. The reservoir's dam is the largest of its kind in Fujian, stretching 338 meters wide and reaching up to 89 meters in height.

The reservoir is part of the Fangyang Hydro Project, which also includes the Shangji Hydropower Station, the Xikou Gate Dam and the Xikou-Xuzhuang Seepage Tunnel.

When the project is fully operational, it will deliver an annual average of 200 million tons of high quality water to Xiamen, greatly easing pressure on the city's water supply.
