The city of Zoetermeer in the Netherlands established an official sister-city relationship with Xiamen on July 14, 2005.

Zoetermeer is a newly-developed city situated in the center of the country. It is nearby the Hague and Rotterdam, and is only 45 kilometers away from Amsterdam airport. 

It has a population of approximately 150,000 and covers an area of 37 square kilometers. The city has experienced rapid development in recent years and has become one of the most economically vibrant and fastest-growing cities in the Netherlands.
