Xiamen sees surge in passenger traffic
Ports of entry in Xiamen, Southeast China's Fujian Province have seen a steady rise in passenger traffic since January 1st this year.
Statistics from the Gaoqi Branch of the Xiamen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection indicate that the total number of inbound and outbound travelers surpassed 1 million by 7 am on February 27th. This sets a new record for the city's ports of entry to reach this milestone in the shortest time ever, marking a strong start for 2026.
The steady rise in passenger numbers is attributed to favorable entry-exit policies and a booming domestic and international travel market.
According to data released by the Gaoqi Branch, over 170,000 foreign travelers were registered from January 1st to February 27th.
Notably, more than 60,000 entered using visa exemptions, transit visa exemptions, or direct transit without entry procedures, accounting for over 70% of the total foreign arrivals — a 20% increase from the previous year. The majority of these travelers visited for tourism and business purposes.
Shen Wenjuan, director of the Border Inspection Department at the Gaoqi Branch, said that to enhance travelers' clearance experience and reduce waiting time, the Branch has implemented a full range of service measures, including:
· leveraging a self-developed information platform to monitor port traffic;
· establishing an inspection model that involves pre-diversion for foreign travelers, separate inspections for domestic and international passengers, and simultaneous entry and transit processing;
· rolling out online entry card filing for foreigners.
