Local officials recently released its annual survey of aging in the city, noting that 643,000 Xiamen residents are at least 60 years old, accounting for 12 percent of the city's permanent resident population. This city has 5.35 million total permanent residents.

 

The number of elderly people aged 80 and above in the city was 62,000, accounting for 13 percent of all senior citizens. The local senior citizen population includes significantly more females than males. Xiamen is also home to 208 centenarians.
