A team led by Wang Chuanchao from Xiamen University in collaboration with the school of archaeology and cultural heritage at Zhengzhou University and other institutions recently published a paper on the genetic continuity of populations in the Central Plains over the past 3,000 years.

The study included the extraction and sequencing of genetic material from 38 residents of the Central Plains.

The genetic samples dated from the Western Zhou, Spring and Autumn, Tang, and Ming-Qing periods, a span of time that covered three millennia.

The researchers published their results in Science Bulletin, a journal of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
