Xiang'an bridge opens to vehicular traffic on January 17
City officials announced that the Xiang'an bridge is open for traffic on January 17. The bridge is the seventh route connecting the island of Xiamen to mainland Xiamen. Located on the east coast of the island, the bridge connects Huli and Xiangan.
The Xiangan bridge features a designed speed of up to 80 kilometers per hour. The bridge includes dual three-lane roadways for its oversea segment and dual four-lane roadways for the land-based road connectors.
Xiamen's first bridge to connect the city's island with its mainland areas opened in 1991. The Xiamen bridge was seen as crucial for the development of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone.
Today's connectors now include the Haicang bridge, the Haicang tunnel, the Jimei bridge, the Xinglin Bridge, the Xiangan tunnel and the Xiangan bridge.
