The city of Xiamen last week announced the launch of a multi-department crackdown on electric bicycles and traffic violations such as jaywalking, riding against traffic, double parking and parking in fire lanes.

The increased vigilance included a three-day checkpoint for electric bicycles at the intersection of Bailuzhou road and West Hexiang road.

Siming authories also conducted a sweep to clamp down on electric bike sales, bike repair on sidewalks and illegal parking.

The city is currently working on the provision of dedicated parking areas for non-motor vehicles such as electric bicycles.
