Xiamen municipal bureau of commerce has been bolstering its efforts to promote safe, healthy and civilized dining in the city while carrying out regular epidemic prevention and control work.

Under the authority of the bureau, Xiamen's dining industry association has formulated standards for restaurants, canteens, and hotels to design menus and offer reasonable servings in each dish, said a representative of the organization.

The bureau also strengthened the promotion of civilized dining, which can include providing serving chopsticks and spoons and the introduction of separate meals. Many hotels and restaurants in Xiamen now charge basing on the number of diners in order to discourage food waste.

In addition, the bureau has held various theme events in order to promote civilized dining behavior in communities, companies, and schools.
