Xiamen boasts 37.93 invention patents per 10,000 residents
Local officials last week announced that locally-based companies and inventors held more than 16,000 valid invention patents as of the end of 2020, ranking second in the province and up by 19.2 percent year-on-year.
The totals translate to a patent ownership rate of 37.93 per 10,000 people, nearly triple the provincial average.
Local residents filed more than 40,000 patent applications in 2020, up 16.5 percent year-on-year. The totals included more than 10,000 invention patent applications (up 11.7 percent), 22,000 utility model patent applications (up 24.7 percent) and 7,800 design patent applications (up almost three percent).
Other notable upswings included 534 international patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty, up more than 58 percent year-on-year. Local individuals and firms received almost 30,000 patents, up over 28.6 percent year-on-year.
