The total revenue of Xiamen's software industry increased by 13.8 percent year-on-year to more than 197.2 billion yuan ($30.52 billion) last year, accounting for more than 50 percent of Fujian's total, according to a local news report on Feb 19.

Xiamen is now home to 306 software enterprises above designated size, seven of which made China's top 100 list last year, including Xiamen Information Group, Xiamen G-bits Network Technology, and Yealink.

Local authorities have said that Xiamen's software industry is especially competitive in animation and mobile games, digital cultural and creative products, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and smart cities.

Online game products independently developed by Xiamen enterprises have been exported to more than 10 countries and regions worldwide and had a market share of at least 60 percent in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia.

A complete AI industrial chain has also taken shape in Xiamen in recent years, and a number of leading enterprises have emerged, including Reconova Technologies Company and Unisound.

According to local authorities, Xiamen plans to further promote the high-quality development of its software industry and continue to strengthen its competitiveness in animation and mobile games, healthcare, information security, and AI.

Efforts will also be made to encourage more research and development, as well as the innovation of the city's software industry, in order to facilitate new technologies, new types of business, and new industries.
