Xiamen Port in East China's Fujian province handled more than 11.12 million containers in 2019, according to a review of the port's performance on Jan 16.

The figure represents a 3.92 percent year-on-year increase, and makes it the 14th largest port in the world and seventh in China.

The port also received more than 413,700 cruise passengers last year, giving it the second largest year-on-year growth and fourth highest overall cruise passenger volume in China.

Wu Shunbin, director of the Xiamen Port bureau, said that the port had many accomplishments last year.

The overall planning of Xiamen Port was approved, the port was chosen as one of the 23 national-level logistics hubs and topped other maritime container ports in China in terms of business environment.

Xiamen Port is looking to improve its management system and governance ability, according to Wu.

Fixed asset investment in Xiamen Port exceeded two billion yuan ($290.55 million) and the port piloted 1,221 150,000-ton cruise ships in 2019.

The bureau also constructed Xiamen Port into a very smart port in 2019, which includes an intelligent logistics platform and a "single window" system, which enables international traders to submit regulatory documents at a single location and/or single entity.

Wu noted that in 2020, Xiamen Port plans to deliver 11.45 million containers and 210 million tons of goods and receive 450,000 cruise passengers.
