A group of 34 doctoral students from the Blue Fire Project have completed their work in Xiamen, Fujian province, and held a closing ceremony Aug 20.

The doctoral students participating in the Blue Fire Project come from 23 universities and research institutes, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nankai University, Tianjin University, East China University of Science and Technology and Xi'an Jiaotong University.

The project was launched by the Ministry of Education in 2015. It aims to facilitate cooperation between local enterprises and educational institutions across the country in an effort to industrialize major scientific and technological achievements.

These students signed one-month agreements with local enterprises in Xiamen, such as State-owned enterprise Xiamen Xiangyu Group and listed company Yealink.

During the month, the 34 doctoral students analyzed 66 technical requirements and problems at the enterprises, helping to overcome 47 technical difficulties in research and development, proposed 18 production process optimization plans, gave 34 professional knowledge training lectures, and participated in preparation work for 20 science and technology projects.

Working at Xiamen Filtertech Industrial Corporation, Feng Cuiyun from Beihang University proposed that the conventional water treatment process can be combined with ozonation technology to remove thoroughly water contaminants, thus solving the problem that the water treated conventionally is below the domestic drinking water standard.

The sponsor of this event paid attention not only to the students' work but also to their lives. The doctoral students were provided with well-equipped apartments for free.

So far, seven doctoral students have signed letters of intent on employment and industry-university-research cooperation with enterprises, including Intretech, Luyan Pharm and Gopro LED.
