The 10th Cross-Straits Philanthropy Forum was held in Xiamen, Fujian province on June 5 to discuss charitable undertakings on the Chinese mainland and Taiwan in the new era.

More than 500 cross-Straits representatives of 51 charitable organizations attended the forum.

Zhang Zhijun, chairman of the Association for Relations across the Taiwan Straits, said that always getting ready to help those in danger and relieving those in need are two of the Chinese people's most treasured virtues.

He hoped that more exchanges between charitable organizations from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan will be conducted in the future so as to bring benefit to more people.

Wang Jiarui, chairman of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, indicated that new ways of communication can be adopted and exchanges in different fields can be explored in the new era.

Zhao Yi, chairman of Taiwan Chinese Culture Promotion Association, suggested that charitable organizations and prominent philanthropists across the Taiwan Straits can get in contact with each other via new media, such as Weibo, China's equivalent of Twitter, and the WeChat messaging app to share their successful practices.

He added that the internet can also encourage more people across the Straits to participate in charitable practices.

During the forum's opening ceremony, 133 internships and 76 jobs were offered for Taiwan people on the Chinese mainland.

With the agenda of discussing ways to benefit cross-Straits residents, the Cross-Straits Philanthropy Forum has run for five years and is well received among philanthropists from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
