The Xiamen Chuan Jazz Festival kicked off last Saturday at the Real Live music house in Shapowei.

The weeklong music festival includes nine individual and group performers from China and overseas. Event organizers said that the festival is designed to promote jazz music locally and to infuse the music scene with new energy and vitality.

Featured performers include American harmonicist Sugar Blue, who has worked with famed acts such as the Rolling Stones, as well as Eabs and Ozma, two of Europe's most active fusion jazz groups. Other performers include the Hagiga sextet, a group that combines sounds from jazz and Middle Eastern music, Gldn, an alternative blues group from Japan, and Chen Yanhong, a jazz guitarist from Taiwan.
