International Ocean Forum opens in Xiamen

 

The 2018 Xiamen International Ocean Forum opened on November 2nd in the Haicang district of Xiamen, Fujian province, with the theme “All Together for a Shared Sustainable Ocean”.

 

The forum is designed to promote maritime cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, to enhance achievement sharing, and to realize mutual development.

 

More than 110 guests from over 30 countries outside China, including governmental officials, enterprise representatives, experts, and scholars,  gathered in the beautiful city of Xiamen with delegates from international organizations, Chinese governmental officials, and delegates of domestic key marine-related enterprises to share policies and practices regarding marine sustainable development.

 

They also discussed the cooperation and exchange of marine resources development and utilization, and science and technology innovation.

 

The forum was sponsored by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People' s Republic of China, Xiamen Municipal Government, and Xiamen University.

 

In addition, another six sub-forums and symposiums are set for the ocean week. These include a Workshop on China-Southeast Asian Countries’ Marine Protected Areas Management and Marine Conservation, the 2018 South-South Cooperation Ocean Forum, the Forum on the Frontier Issues of Global Ocean Governance, the Grandview Institution-ASEAN Think Tanks Dialogue(2nd,2018), the 2018 Forum on International Marine Affairs, the WESTPAC Ocean Acidification Symposium, and the 3rd China Leisure Fishery Forum.
