2019-09-17 10:16

The 2019 Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival will take place in Xiamen in East China's Fujian province from Nov 22 to Jan 5, according to a press conference held in Beijing on Sept 12.

This year's photo festival will feature 30 exhibitions of works by 55 leading artists from around the world.

Organizers said that one highlight will be that celebrated works by French photographer Lucien Clergue go on display. Clergue was a close friend of Pablo Picasso and devoted his whole life to artistic creations, such as abstract human bodies and bullfights.

The exhibition will showcase his work from 50 years ago, when he took part in the first Rencontres d'Arles international photo festival in France.

The Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival focuses on photography in one specific Asian country each year. Following on from Indonesia in 2017 and South Korea in 2018, the festival will focus on India this year, with three special exhibitions.

Co-created by Sam Stourdzé, director of the Rencontres d'Arles, and Chinese photographer Rong Rong, the Jimei x Arles event features international artists selected from the Rencontres d'Arles alongside Chinese and Asian photography talent.

Since its establishment in 2015, the Jimei x Arles has attracted more than 230,000 visitors.
