Xiamen authorities last week issued a new set of local standards for online car-hailing services. The regulatory framework covers operating conditions, service standards, operation management, information security and safety and emergency solutions as well as supervision and management.

Local officials added that further regulation is expected. The oversight program is designed to improve the safety and convenience of the local car-hailing industry, which currently provides service to more than 600,000 passengers per day.

A total of six online car-hailing enterprises encompassing 21,000 vehicles and more than 51,000 drivers are currently permitted to operate in Xiamen.
