Spring Festival 2017: Where to visit in Xiamen

Xiamen has become the top domestic travel destination during the upcoming  Spring Festival golden week, according to an online travel agency Ctrip. As a garden city with sunshine and beach, Xiamen is a good place for vacation where you can’t miss these top scenic spots.

Follow, we’ll list the most places worth visiting, such as Huangdao Road, Gulangyu Island, Xiamen University, South Putuo Temple and Zhongshan Road.

1、Huandao Road area

(1) Huandao Road

 
Huandao Road, the main racing track for the Xiamen International Marathon Race, is known as the most beautiful marathon course in the world. You can enjoy listening to the waves as well as feeling the wind on your face while riding a bike along the road.

(2) Wooden path

　
Wooden path is a romantic place that you can take a walk with your friends, have a cozy chat and feel peaceful and closer to each other.

(3) Yefengzhai (Coconut Wind Fort)

Yefengzhai is a comprehensive scenery spot of tourism and leisure, with beautiful seascapes, seaside amusement park, bathing beach and more. You can also fly a kite there as you like.

(4) Zengcuo'an

 
Zengcuo'an is used to be a fishing village, but now it's become one of the most popular tourism spots in Xiamen that receives more than 300,000 tourists every year. Some traditional buildings are still well-preserved.

2、Gulangyu Island area

Gulangyu, dubbed 'Piano Island', is also known as China's Museum of Architecture. With traditional Chinese temple, former consulates of western countries built in the 19th century and folk domiciles in Fujianese style, Gulangyu is called a “exhibition of the world's architecture”.

(1) The Sunlight Rock
 

The Sunlight Rock, a gigantic rock with a diameter of 40 meters, is said to be the best place to watch the sunrise on Gulangyu Island and it’s know for the camp for the famous Chinese general Zheng Chenggong’s troops.

(2)Shuzhuang Garden

Shuzhuang Garden is the private garden of Xiamen industrialist Lin Erjia. Nested near sea and hill, it’s delicate and elegant. In addition, the only piano museum in China and folk furniture museum is inside the garden.

(3)Xiamen Underwater World

　
Xiamen Underwater World has more than 350 species of fishes from the sea and fresh water and other underwater creatures from all over the world. And you can watch fishes from a 80-meter-long undersea tunnel.

3、Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street

As the well-known commercial street with a long history in Xiamen, Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street is a landmark of the city. Other than doing some shopping, you can also go and see the historical blocks in the old town area. By the way, snacks in the Eighth Market are so delicious that you shouldn’t miss.

4、Xiamen University area

(1) Xiamen University(XMU)

Xiamen University enjoys the name as one of the most beautiful campus in China. Xiamen University was the first university in China to be founded by an overseas Chinese businessman. Located at the foot of green mountains and facing the blue ocean, the University is justly famous for its rolling green campus, which includes the beautiful Furong (Lotus) Lake. Nearby the campus is the Nan Putuo monastery which was established in the Tang Dynasty and is now a major training center for Buddhist monks.

(2)South Putuo Temple

 
South Putuo Temple is a famous Buddhist temple in southern province of Fujian and a busy and crowded place of worship for Buddhists. Climbing up to the top of the Wulao Mountain, you’ll get a l view of Siming District.

(3) Shapowei 
 

As the only sheltered dock in downtown Xiamen, Shapowei's history goes back to before the Ming Dynasty. In June 2015，Xiamen launched 'history recall' project at Shapowei which focuses on dock dredging, road restoration, arcade building renovation and reconstruction on dangerous buildings.

At the moment, Shapowei is the paradise for photographer and also known as Shapowei Art Zone.　

(4) Ding’aozai Cat Street 

 
The Ding’aozai road, which is used to be one of the most literary streets in Xiamen, has turned itself into a cat street with a large amount of cat-related elements.  If you love cats, you’d ask for touching and feeding them.

Off-island areas

1、Tong’an Studio

Tong'an Film Studio City is a palace built in the style of the Forbidden City (Imperial Palace) at ancient times with the Gate of Heavenly Peace, Hall of Supreme Harmony and Summer Palace. It is a famous shooting sites for many TV plays and movies.

 
Visitors here can have the chance to play a role as Number One Scholar in the traditional Chinese imperial examination.

2、Jinguang Lake Scenic Area

The Jinguang Lake Scenic Area earns the name of ‘Xishuangbanna in the southern Fujian province’ for its well-preserved primeval forest. Walking in the forest, tourists can not only enjoy the beautiful scenery but also relax in the ‘forest oxygen-bar’.

3、Beichen Mountain

 
The Beichen Mountain in Xiamen's Tong'an district was named as a national 4A scenic spot by China's National Tourism Administration (CNTA), where is the perfect place for a trip of Minnan culture.
