Xiamen Railway Station gears up for summer vacation travel rush

A new summertime railway timetable drawn up by the Nanchang Railway Bureau will come into effect from July 1st to August 31st. According to the new timetable, 33 two-way trains will be added during the 62-day summer vacation travel rush, which represents the period of the summer when the railways becomes busiest. It is predicted that 5.05 million passengers will depart from Xiamen Railway Station, which roughly means 80 thousand passengers per day, an increase of around 7%.

 

The majority of passengers travelling during the summer vacation are students, tourists, business people and those visiting relatives. It is expected that the amount of passengers travelling middle and long distances to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, etc., will increase by 9.2% year on year, while the number of people travelling short distances to Nanchang, Shangrao, Pingxiang, Fuzhou, Yingtan, Jingdezhen, Ganzhou, Longyan, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Wuyi Mountain, etc., will increase by 8% year on year.

 

A large quantity of trains are also to be added during “Shuyun”, including 25 two-way trains from Nanchang West Station to Fuzhou and Xiamen, from Fuzhou to Xiamen, Wuyi Mountain, Shangrao, Taining, Jianning and Changting, as well as from Xiamen to Sanming and Longyan. Two two-way trains named “Disney Sightseeing” will travel from Jiujiang to Shanghai South Station numbered K4979/8,  K4977/80, there will be the No. K4396/5 from Pingxiang (Yingtan) to Shanghai South Station, one two-way train from Fuzhou to Taiyuan numbered K1576/7 and K1578/5. Additionally, there will be the No. K4369/8, K4367/70 from Jiujiang to Guangzhou East Station, No. K5859, the K6212 from Shaowu to Fuzhou, No. K6209/10 from Jingdezhen to Xiamen, and No. K5893/2 from Ganzhou to Xiamen, AKA “Xiaohouniao Tanqin”, which basically means “little migratory birds coming home” in English. Finally, there will be a No. D2348/7 from Xiamen to Shenzhen North Station to be added every Saturday and Monday from July 2nd to August 29th.
