2017 Spring Festival travel rush begins

The Spring Festival travel rush kicked off last Friday. The Xiamen Railway Station and Xiamen North Railway Station hosted 76,000 passengers on the first day, a rise of 2,000 year-on-year. City transportation officials predicted that the railway passenger flow during the peak season this year will stand at 3,100,000, rising 5.8 percent over 2016.

 

The peak before the Spring Festival is estimated to run from January 22 through January 26, with daily passengers reaching 105,000. The peak after the Spring Festival will come between February 1 and February 4, with daily passengers topping 95,000.

 

The two Xiamen railway stations have set up a total of 32 ticket booths and 96 self-service ticket machines. More than 90  percent of train tickets were bought through on-line payments. Free WiFi service is offered at the stations and hundred of books will be available on trains for passengers to read free of charge.
