The 2017 Vanke Run for Fun was held in Xiamen, Fujian province on Oct 28.

More than 2,500 runners from 150 enterprises and public institutes in the coastal city finished the 5-kilometer race along Wuyuan Bay while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Given the recent spate of sudden heart attacks during marathon events in China, the organizing committee demanded to know runners' health conditions in advance and bought insurance for each participant.

The event organizer—the Xiamen branch of China Vanke, the nation's No 2 property developer—released a report on the health and exercise conditions of white-collar workers in Xiamen ahead of the event.

The report, based on a survey of more than 5,000 people, revealed that running has become a top exercise choice for white-collar workers in Xiamen.

Female white-collar workers aged between 26 and 35 exercise most frequently, while those aged between 36 and 55 do not do enough exercise, according to the report.

With the obesity rate rising in China due to overwork and unhealthy eating habits, more and more people are taking up running in a bid to stay in shape.

Coming into its fifth year, the Vanke Run for Fun is aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle among the public.

So far, China Vanke has held more than 260 Run for Fun events in over 60 cities around the country.
