Banlam Grand Theater's 2018 Drama Festival kicks off

The Banlam Grand Theater recently announced the opening of its 2018 drama festival, with three new and exclusive musicals and plays scheduled to hit the stage this March.

 

 

Kunqu Opera “Cai Wenji”

 

A rewritten version of the Kunqu opera “Cai Wenji” by Tseng Yung-yi, a literature master in Taiwan, will also soon be unveiled to the public.

 

The masterpiece tells of Cai Wenji, a Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220) woman poet and composer, who was taken prisoner by the Xiongnu nomads and became a chieftain's wife but eventually managed to return home.

Russian play “The Seagull”

 

The Seagull is a play written by Russian dramatist Anton Chekhov, and is widely considered one of the greatest works in the history of world drama.

 

The play will be performed by OKT/ Vilnius City Theatre, one of the  Lithuanian directorial theaters that played a central role in safeguarding modern drama, modern staging of classics, and other concepts of scenic metaphor and scenic action througout the centuries.

Reed Unbroken Musical Concert

 

Reed Unbroken, an original musical concert composed by Taiwan artist Chia-Chia Pon, is adapted from the famous story of Wang Baochuan and Xue Pinggui during the Tang Dynasty.

  

Taiwanese starlets Zhang Fangyu and Lv Chengyou will play the leading roles in the musical.
