Preliminary rounds of 2018 “Young Star Ambassadors” English competition wrap up

Contestants from the Individuals Group D finished the competition on May 14^th at the Red Star Macalline Furniture Mall, marking the end of the preliminary rounds of the 2018 “Young Star Ambassadors” Xiamen Youth English Proficiency Competition.

More than 60 high school students in Xiamen competed in today’s keynote speech contest to qualify for the next round.

They were given a choice of three topics to choose from which were: “Beautiful Xiamen in my eyes”, “What I know about Xiamen’s sister cities” and "Xiamen and me", and told of how they understand the beauty of the city and its story, as well as detailed the city’s prosperity in a 3-5 minute long speech.

The first rounds of the Individuals Group C and the Team Groups B and C were wrapped up last weekend.

According to the official statement, the final rounds will take place  on May 19.

In the final rounds, the Individuals Group B will compete in picture story-telling while the Individuals Groups C and D will take part in a movie dubbing contest.

The group competitors will go head to head in a knowledge quiz as well as a competition for sitcoms on the theme of Xiamen’s development since the reforms that opened China up.

The competition is jointly sponsored by the Xiamen Municipal Education Bureau, the Information Office of of Xiamen Municipal Government, the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Xiamen Municipal Government and Xiamen Daily. It is organized by the Xiamen Academy of Educational Science, xmnn.cn, the city’s official website, and xmenglish.cn, the city’s English portal website.
