2018 Xiamen Primary and Secondary School Maker Competition concludes

The finals of 2018 Xiamen Primary and Secondary School Maker Competition were held in Xiamen University on December 9th.

Over 1,000 contestants from across the city competed in the finals. There were five categories of competition: fun programming, robot maker, 3D plus maker, DIY maker, comic, and animation maker.

After on-site practice and oral defense, 85 first prizes, 128 second prizes, and 209 third prizes were awarded to the winners.

During the awards ceremony, Mr. Lin Weiqing, director of Xiamen Academy of Educational Science and Vice President of Xiamen Society of Education, summed up the goals of the event: “The competition aims to arouse the students ’ enthusiasm for scientific and technological innovation, to inspire creativity and to improve the ability to solve real-life problems.”

Themed “environmental protection”, robot maker, DIY maker, 3D plus maker, and fun programming all encouraged participants to use their imagination and creativity to save energy, reduce emission, and recycle wastes. The comic and animation maker required the contestants to produce stories on “kindness” from various angles. Through these activities, kids cultivated their awareness of environmental protection and inspired their hearts.

The competition was sponsored by Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Education, Xiamen Daily, and Xiamen Society of Education, organized by Xiamen Academy of Educational Science and xmnn.cn, the city’s news portal, and co-organized by Fujian Robot Intelligence, Xiamen Relight Photoelectric Technology Co., Ltd., and the School of Information Science and Engineering, Xiamen University.
