2018-11-14

According to data released by the Survey Office of the National Bureau of Statistics in Xiamen, the city’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) in October increased by 0.5% over last month and 2.4% over the previous year. Additionally, it showed a cumulative rise of 1.9% from January to September.

Compared with last month, food prices in Xiamen were reduced by 0.7% in October. Thanks to favorable weather conditions, Xiamen witnessed an increase in vegetable supply, with prices dropping by 6.8% month-to-month. Along with the cooling weather, egg supply also went up, causing the price to fall by 2.3%.

At the same time, prices of non-food goods saw a rise of 0.8%. Influenced by the ever-growing price of international crude oil, the city raised gas and diesel prices twice in October, with a cumulative increase of 4.2% and 4.7% respectively. The higher demand for travel and transportation during the National Day holiday led to an increase of 19.2%, 9.7%, and 2.4% for accommodation, travel agencies, and airlines, respectively.

Six major components of CPI grew as well: Food(2.2%), accommodation(2.2%), transportation and communication(3%), education and entertainment(2.3%), health care(3.3%), and apparel(3.5%), with a total rise of 2.28% over the past year.
