The awards ceremony for the 2018 "Love Ocean, Love Xiamen" Photographic Essay Competition was held at the Xiamen International Conference & Exhibition Center on November 10.

As a supporting event for the 2018 World Ocean Week in Xiamen, the competition was launched on May 1, and divided into an essay competition and a photograph contest. The contents were intended to raise the educational and cultural awareness in regards to Xiamen's marine protection.

Participants in the competition were required to tell a story about the relationship between Xiamen and the ocean, either by essay or through photography. During the competition period, a wide range of themed activities were organized, including field trips to uninhabited islands, a group photography gathering, and free writing training for local elementary and secondary students.

Accordingly, this event was well-received by local participants in Xiamen. By the end of October, more than 1,000 essays by Xiamen elementary and secondary students were collected, and over 10,000 photographs were submitted from across the city.
