Twenty pure electric buses have headed to Qamdo county, a prefecture-level city in the eastern part of Tibet autonomous region, from Xiamen, east China's Fujian province Nov 1, local media reported.

The buses, offered by Golden Dragon Bus Co, a Xiamen-based manufacturer of medium-large sized luxury buses and light vans, are an important part of Fujian's aid for Tibet and are expected to bring more convenient and comfortable travel to local residents.

After accepting the task assigned by Fujian provincial government, the Xiamen bus company dispatched engineers and technicians to the county to help the local government locate bus stations and make shift arrangements.

Given that Qamdo county's roads are all narrow and many have steep inclines, Golden Dragon decided to send out its Kast city bus, a classic vehicle with a high chassis.

Some improvements were made to the Kast before the drive to Tibet. Their endurance mileage has been extended to 170 kilometers, and electric defrosters and heating systems were installed to adapt to the cold weather.

The 20 buses are scheduled to arrive in Qamdo in mid-November to run on the county's two bus routes. Qamdo can expect more buses from Golden Dragon Bus Co for several other routes in the near future.

Founded in 1992, the Golden Dragon Bus Co has grown into a leading complete-vehicle export base in China with three factories with total annual output capacity of 40,000 buses and approximately 4,000 employees.
