Kanika Rupani from India has recently assumed the post of assistant to the  community director in Guanren, an international community of expats, in Xiamen, Fujian province.

Living in the city for four years, Kanika has learned how to speak Chinese and many local customs and she now sees Xiamen as her second hometown.

As an assistant, Kanika devotes most of her time not only to constructing a better community, but also to helping her community's Chinese children learn English.

"This is a nice experience," the Indian assistant said, and she hopes more international families will take part in community activities.

The Guanren International Community is exploring a new way of management by hiring foreign residents as its director's assistant. The community now houses more than 1,400 foreigners from 42 countries and regions.
