Chen Wenling exhibition opens in Xiang'an

The Aotou Culture and Art Season kicked off recently. An art exhibition featuring the works of contemporary artist Chen Wenling opened last week in Xiang'an's Aotou Port arts district.

Entitled Towards the Sea, the exhibit features 36 sculptures and installations created by Mr. Chen since his move to Beijing from Xiamen in 2004.

Signature works include Community, a massive sculpture that is 20 meters tall and 40 meters long. The exhibit includes a score of small and medium-sized sculptures and installations as well as 200 manuscripts, 20 photographs works and five works of calligraphy created by Mr. Chen.

Born in Quanzhou, the artist is perhaps most famous in Xiamen for his Little Red Children series of sculptures. Mr. Chen created the series of vibrant red sculptures as a paean to the innocence of children. The sculptures debuted on the beaches of Xiamen in 2001.

The Xiang'an exhibition will run through the end of December and admission is free of charge.
