2.25M tourists visit Xiamen during Golden Week
Local tourism authorities announced that Xiamen received 2.25 million domestic and international tourists during the seven-day National Day holiday, up by almost 21 percent year-on-year. Tourism revenue jumped by more than 24 percent to 2.7 billion yuan.
Tourism between Xiamen and Hong Kong surged as the result of the new direct high-speed rail line between the two areas. Train service from Hong Kong was sold out throughout the holiday. An estimated 25,000 Xiamen residents visited Hong Kong via rail during Golden Week.
Xiamen's biggest tourist draws during the vacation included a pair of agritourism events in Xiang'an and Tong'an, the music-and-light show at Bailuzhou park and the newly-opened 7D overpass at the Wild Valley resort in Tong'an. Elevated more than 100 meters above the valley floor, the 200-meter bridge includes a transparent glass floor and holographic imagery.
