Rare yellow-billed egret spotted in Xiangan

2018-09-21

Recently, a rare yellow-billed egret appeared near the Dadeng Bridge in Xiang'an.

Despite their threated status globally, yellow-billed egrets have been spotted regularly in Xiamen in recent years. Birdwatchers spotted approximately 20 yellow-billed egrets at the bridge last year.

The yellow-billed egret does not have an established breeding base in Xiamen but the city hopes to foster optimal conditions for yellow-billed egret visits during the species' migratory seasons. Conservationists estimate that fewer than 2,000 yellow-billed egrets currently exist. The species is listed as vulnerable in the China Red Data Book of Birds.
