Xiamen to replace 2,584 taxis this year

2018-08-16

Local officials announced recently that the annual replacement of older taxis began earlier this year with the introduction of 150 Changan Suzuki Qiyue taxis. Xiamen is the debut market for the Qiyue taxis, which run on compressed natural gas.

This year's overhaul of the city taxi fleet calls for retiring 2,584 older taxis accounting for 43 percent of the total fleet. The upgrade is the largest ever for the city's annual replacement program.

When purchasing new taxi vehicles, the city's taxi companies can select from 11 city-approved models. The city is promoting the adoption of fully-electric vehicles.
