2018-08-13

Regional authorities recently announced that the new expressway linking Xiamen and Zhangzhou is slated to open in October. The limited-access roadway is free of traffic lights and will connect the two cities with a 30-minute drive.

The project is underwritten by the Southwestern Economic Cooperation Zone, which includes the municipalities of Longyan, Quanzhou, Xiamen and Zhangzhou.

The 26-kilometer route runs from Jiaomei Guanlu Village (connecting Xiamen Haixiang Avenue) and terminates in Zhangzhou at Yancuo, Longhai.

The expressway will have a speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour while its auxiliary roads will be limited to 40 kilometers per hour. Three to four lanes wide in each direction, the thoroughfare's route includes multiple overpasses and rampways built on piles of 11 to 88 meters in height.
