The 2018 International Conference for Managing the Asian Century (ICMAC) was held in Xiamen's Haicang, East China's Fujian province from July 6 to 7.

More than 500 specialists, industry experts and medicine manufacturers from China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASAN) took apart.

This year's conference, with a theme of "Linking the Belt and Road with Smart Biotech" provided a platform for experts to share their latest research and discuss the biotechnology industry and how to facilitate smart innovation and cooperation under China's Belt and Road Initiative.

Dr. John. Vong, president of ICMAC, said at the conference that the Belt and Road Initiative provides a new opportunity for neighboring countries to promote smart biotechnology.

The famous bioinformatics expert, Dr. Hwa A. Lim, made a keynote speech on how to develop new technologies and to what extent biotechnology benefits the health and education industries in modern society.

He said that countries along the Belt and Road embrace significant biodiversity characteristics and more potential possibilities to promote mutual cooperation in biotech development.

Founded in 2013, the high-end international conference was organized by the Silk Road National Strategy Research Center and the committee of the ICMAC. It was attempted to showcase the latest technological innovations and promotes international cooperation. This year's event was the first to be held in China.

Xiamen, a crucial city on the Silk Road, is making efforts to promote its biomedical and health industries. About half of Fujian's biomedical enterprises have settled there. Haicang is also home to more than 300 enterprises. It has developed a ten-valent cervical cancer vaccine technology to be launched this October.
