Recently, the Emirates Sana was berthed at the Dongdu Port District of Xiamen, marking the maiden voyage of the Xiamen-United Arab Emirates shipping route.

The Emirates Sana is a 100,000-ton container ship measuring 304 meters long overall, and with a transport capacity of 6,741 TEUs. Reports suggest a total of six ships will be operated for the Xiamen-UAE route, which calls at the Port of Xiamen every Monday, as well as Singapore, Kelang, Cochin, Nhava Sheva and other ports in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Accordingly, the port of Xiamen is now operating an estimated 140 container routes, including more than 130 foreign ones with access to over 130 ports in 40 different countries. This April, the port opened a new route to the Americas passing through Mexico, Peru and Chile. Since then, additional routes were opened to major Asian destination ports such as Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand.

In the first five months of 2018, the container throughput for the port of Xiamen exceeded 4.23 million TEUs, marking an increase of 9% year-on-year, according to the port authorities.
