Earthquake warning system to be built in Xiamen

Mao Songlin, the director of Xiamen's Seismological Bureau, said last week that the city plans to implement an earthquake warning information system within the next three years. The system will include more than 1,400 regional earthquake warning terminals at sites including all primary and secondary schools as well as a number of rural villages.

Mr. Mao added that construction is now underway on the system alongside a growing awareness campaign. The city is also promoting emergency drills and training to teach an understanding of what to do in the event of earthquake warning to mitigate potential negative impacts.
